Interview Preparation

Independent School Interviews

Independent grammar schools are increasingly making use of interviews as a method of selecting potential pupils. Manchester Grammar School for Boys, Manchester High School for Girls, Oldham Hulme School, Bridgewater School and Stockport Grammar School are just some of those which invite pupils to attend an interview after they have completed their entrance examinations. Pupils can find these interviews immensely daunting and intimidating, even if they achieved strong scores in the entrance examinations. Some interviews even involve ‘activities’, in which children are observed taking part in a range of tasks. They are judged on the problem-solving (and other) abilities they show when they undergo these activities. Even the most confident adults in professional careers can become anxious and worried for weeks before an important interview. This stress and anxiety is magnified for children who have to undergo the same process in order to stand a chance of gaining a place at their ideal school.

At the Eleven Plus Tutors in Manchester, we know the fear and anxiety children face before attending their crucial school interview, we know the kinds of questions that will be asked at the interview and we know the best way to prepare your child for their interview. Our interview preparation session has successfully helped dozens of children prepare for their grammar school interviews and increased their confidence and readiness to answer questions put to them. In addition to helping your child reflect on their strengths, weaknesses and ways to develop, we equip them with the tools they will need to answer questions they might not expect, including difficult problem-solving questions based around hypothetical situations. We will also prepare your child to speak and conduct themselves in a way that befits the atmosphere of a large, grand grammar school.
